More on Energy

Buddhists have a particular type of meditation called Tonglen.  The idea behind it is to help people by taking into yourself a dark, heavy, negative energy while at the same time breathing out a soft, kind, light energy. I've often wondered about this.  I think clearly when we are close to one another there is something (perhaps something biological or some subconscious perceptions) that can create a sense of energy in a room, or place.

However, that sort of begs the question.  So, I'll put it out to you.  First, is there really a literal energy that we put out?  If so, then can we affect it with out actions?  My rationalist side wants to say that's silly and akin to a belief in ghosts.  However, my experience seems to speak against my rationalist side.  So, what do you think?

I don't know but it's an interesting thought. Thoughts like that always get me in this really relaxed mood. Perhaps it's the idea that we can control ourselves to another level that (most of us) haven't yet explored.

I think we put out an energy or humans really do show their moods through their eyes and the smallest of facial expressions because, this has to have happened to you, just by seeing someone in a horrible mood without saying any words or even eye contact, your mood is deflated or you are bothered all day.

Same thing here. I try and rationalize, but experience points in a different direction. Like when you know you're being watched, or when someone walks in a room and your back's to the doorway. You just *know* somene's there.

I have often wondered about this, too. It goes against my rational understanding of the physical world.  I've come to the purely subjective conclusion that there is an energy, but it is more psychological than physical in nature.  Have you ever been in a room or meeting where the tone totally changes when someone new joins the group?  I think that is a result of how their energy effects the group.  That energy may be communicated or passed to others in the form of body language, tone of voice, choice of words, etc.  Subtle things which cannot be physically measured, but are none-the-less reflections of a mental/spiritual state that is real.  Every thought you think and corresponding emotion that you feel effects the biochemistry of your brain and body in general.  I think it is here that we find the mental/spiritual and the physical.  And it is present in such a way that the mental/spiritual can impact physical responses and realities. It is a thing we know very little about, but what little I've learned about it is fascinating.

I'm not saying that is purely limited to physical expressions.  The type of exchange you spoke of may be quite possible. I just think that at this point there isn't any emperical way to test or measure it. They may be a literal energy. There was a time when people who believed in hydrogen, oxygen and other invisible gasses were thought to be mad. All I know is that there is certainly a centuries long history of belief in such phenomenon and it makes you wonder if there isn't something to it.

At base, all is vibration. Positive energy, negative energy, perceived through the filter of our senses.
